Week:3 & 4

THE LESSON
WEEK 3
During
the third and forth week we were supposed to observe the teacher’s attitude
,her way of teaching,what she tried to do in the presentation practice and
production parts.
Presentation
:in the first class the teacher tried to figure out the level of the students.
Before introducing the topic the teacher basically wanted use some elicitation
techniques to learn weather they know anything about the numbers or not. The
majority did not know the numbers because they are forth grade. After
presenting the aim of the course the teacher asked them to open their books by
not directing it in target language.
Practice
:the teacher tried to use audio-lingual method here. In the first activity
students were supposed to match the numbers correctly. By using her body language
the teacher moved her arms like a cross so that the students can easily
understand what to do in this activity. With the help of that display method
the teacher could easily put her message across in target language. Another
reason that she could sent her message is the sentence was easy .during the
practice part the teacher also has to deal with some other factors not related
to lesson like punishing a naughty student ,scolding on them in Turkish .
Production
:in that part the students were supposed to circle the numbers written on the
white board and ask each others in pairs.
WEEK 4
Presentation
:the teaher started by greeting the students :

:how are you today?

:fine thanks and you
T
:thanks sit down.
After
greeting with the students the teacher started again by describing the aim of
the topic .She asked some questions about the countries, continents also she
asked them if they have some relatives or friends abroad to drive their
attentions for the class.
Practice
:The name of the topic is continents and the students did not know the name of
the continents even in Turkish and also they did not know where those
continents are. The teacher started complain about that she has to teach the
geography . It is time consuming for her to do the required activities in class
in time.
In
that part the teacher used the translation method too much.because at the very
beginning of the semester making the students exposed to may cause negative
results.
The
majority of the class did not attend the lesson and the teacher scold them by
saying “bu sinif cok tembel ,siz hic ders calismiyorsunuz”.
Production
:the students were supposed to tell the name of an animal and decide where
those animals live and they would tell each other .by using role play here she
tried to draw the attention of the students.
Personal
comments : the students are getting used to us and our mentor day by day. Also,
they are not exposed to English sufficiently .The teacher can use
different activities like games to make
them more interested in lesson or drama
which helps the teacher to identify their personal characteristics or
deficiencies because the students consider the drama like a game and they do not
behave consciously so the teacher can use this activity in the lesson.
