Week 3-4

THE LESSON

Week 3:
Beginnig of the lesson, our mentor checked the homework that is given last week. The teacher was counted numbers from 1 to 20 in order to be remembered. This week they did many activities including all of skills.The teacher gives clear and short instructions.She tells the students what they will do and how they will do.When she starts the activity,she goes step by step.The language the teacher uses within the explanation is clear and fluent.She uses clear and short sentences.That is, the choice of words and level of language is appropriate for their age and interest.She explains the topic or a word about it with clear sentences.The explanations are understandable for the students.She also uses repetition for the students to comprend better.She checks by asking question whether they understand or not.
            During the practice stage, body parts are tought this week. Teacher draws a big man on the board and write parts of the body. Then teacher wants to write to notebook. Generally during the lesson, teacher depends on the coursebook and activities. And activities are supported Turkish explanation.
            While all of these activities are done, teacher turns up a song about body parts, in this way students feel relax. So our mentor is used Desuggestoprdia.
            At the production stage, teacher gives away some materials about topic. At the rest of activities in the coursebook are given as homework.
Taking all of these into consideration,the lesson is effective for the students.They repeats the previous learning by doing many activities.For examples,the students listen some  songs, and then they fills in the blank activities.After that the teacher asks them different questions about the passages and song.She gives some cues to make the students speak.Also,she explains an unknown word by using body language.It is really good to learn the meaning of the word.The teacher verbal and non verbal communication  in the class is so effective to better learning.Her voice ,eye contact, gestures provide the improving of the students and teacher interaction.Sometimes,even if the students make noise ,she manages the control of the class.

Week 4:
            This week, teacher talks about “my familiy”. She writes some words on the board about topic such as; father, mother, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather, cousin. And students repeat these words one by one. Then they draw their family members on notebook. They try to do exercises individually. They do not work together(pair or group work).
            The participation of lesson is very low.There are a few students who do the activities.Others are not interested in the lesson.They are so indifferent that they do not  do anything to learn something.At that point,the teacher should try to find new way to take students’ attention into the lesson.The teacher should take into account the students’ learning styles because all of us have different learning styles,our interests are different.Considering these features of students,the teacher can increase the participation of the lesson,choose the topic and activities according to the interest and improvement of students.In addition to this,the duration of activities is so important.Each activity should be an ideal length to provide their comprehension.If it takes longer,the students might get bored and lose their attention and interest in the whole activity.The teacher should use effectively.Moreover, the teacher should  not depend on the teacher book and exercises in it.Besides,the teacher should teach in different ways and use different techniques with regard to students learning styles.Our teacher also uses different resources,techniques and methods to present the teaching and learning process in the meaningful way.
           
            In conclusion, students repeat words about my family and they do matching activities in the students’ book. Lastly teacher gives homework and lesson is over.
